Greenville, S.C. --
Bride-to-be Krystal Green loves the knee-length Alfred Angelo dress she picked for her five bridesmaids to wear at her June 5th wedding. Green said each order was placed with Southern Bride in Greenville by the first week in January
"(An employee) told us the dresses would take three-four months to get in," said Green.
Four months later no dresses.
"We had already tried to get in touch with Alfred Angelo and, unfortunately, they couldn't tell us anything," said Green.
She said the owner of shop, Missy Spearman, told her the dresses would arrive by the wedding day. That wasn't good enough for Krystal and her fiance, Jason Brown, so they asked 7 On Your Side to step in.
"We had already bought backup plan dresses, we did not think they were going to get here," said Green.
7 On Your Side contacted the dress company and they told us the dresses were shipped the next day. We also tried to interview the owner of Southern Bride on camera but she said she didn't have time. She told us the dresses arrived on Thursday, more than 3 weeks ahead of time. She said she fulfilled the terms of the contract requiring delivery by the wedding date.
The Better Business Bureau gives Southern Bride in Greenville an "F" rating and even revoked it's accreditation last year. The owner told us she is to blame but says she took care of every complaint.
"They earn their grade, we don't give a grade," said Upstate BBB president Kathy Barrett. "If they've earned an "F" there's a reason."
Barrett said the company has not responded to four complaints received in the last twelve months. She said the BBB has given the company several opportunities to respond.
"The process has worked for almost 100 years," Barrett said. "We want the consumer and the business to both come to us and we want to try to help them resolve the complaint."
Now Green is just hoping other brides won't have to face the same dilemma.
We also checked out Southern Bride with the South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs. They tell us they have one complaint and it has been closed as "satisfied".
